I am going to Droitwich Spa Brine Bath in a weeks time and was planning to have some pampering treatments while there. I am 13 weeks pregnant and have been told that some aromatherapy/massage treatments should be avoided during pregnancy. Does anyone have any advice…..I was planning on a full body massage and using the pool which is salt water.

It all depends on what spa you go to I guess- however I went on my honeymoon at 8 1/2 weeks pregnant in February. We had a spa certificate and the ONLY thing they would allow me to do was get a facial. They did have a pregnancy massage however you had to be in the second trimester for them to do it- so I was unable to do that. They wouldn’t do the body wraps, any massages, etc. Again I’m sure it all depends on the place you’re going- I’d discuss it quick with your doctor as well. Have fun!
the pool shouldn`t be a problem… the massage you will need to make sure the person doing it is fully aware that you`re pregnant as they need to modify their technique. Also there are some oils they can`t use as they can stimulate uterine contractions.
just make sure that you ask advice about the treatments etc when you arrive pointing out that you are pregnant.
Although i am a midwife, I`m not an expert in beauty treatments for pregancy.
Hope this helps

sauna, steam rooms, any tummy touching massage (although each place may have different rules) my place does a full massage they just avoid your tummy
Best to ask midwife or spa.
BTW; no Jacuzzi - anything remotely vibrating on you.
Ring them for advice (you may also be better off booking your ‘treat’ before you go); Telephone 01905 793446
I have just checked out their website and I think you ought to mention to them that they have no PREGNANCY information at all.
You should unfortunatley avoid most treatments. Most spas will have some, alhough limited, treatments that will be suitable. Best thing to do is phone them and ask what is on offer. I dont imagine the pool will be a problem, i live in a seaside area and used to go swimming in the sea whilst pregnant… never did me any harm. But you could always check with your doctor/midwife/health advisor. Have fun!
i had monthly massages thruout my 2nd and 3rd trimesters, but that was OK’d with my doc and they were given by someone certified in pregnancy massage. i’d avoid anything that might raise your body temp such as sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, etc. my massage therapist wouldn’t even use hot stones on me {bummer} because of that. anything like an acid peel on the face would probably not be best either. i’d say the pool is fine. i would call the spa beforehand though and ask what service they allow. then call and OK w/ your doc.
